Mission
In cooperation with school districts, to create high quality, multicultural schools with year-round learning environments, which are child-directed, interactive, supported by families, community and school staff and governed by an accountable board of community and parent representatives.
The New School Foundation builds partnerships with public schools serving low income families. We invest in our partner schools because we believe that extraordinary outcomes are achieved when:
- The academic program is individualized and intentional, is supported by on-going professional development, and evolves in response to feedback from assessments and families
- Students and their families are known, engaged and supported
- Learning challenges are either prevented or they are identified quickly and mitigated through appropriate interventions
- Quality education begins early, including via integrated pre-kindergarten in our partner schools
Vision
Our vision is to create proven models for schools that:
- ensure the academic, social, emotional and physical success of each student
- are supported by private and public funding and an active community of parents, staff and educators
- are designed to be replicated.
Values
- We believe in a holistic approach to each child’s development with attention to each child’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being.
- We foster student self-direction through an interactive learning environment that encourages children to develop, express and explore their own interests.
- We believe that a deliberate and comprehensive approach to integrating children’s social and emotional well-being can improve their academic success.
- We integrate the value of understanding cultures and serving others in our community and world.
- We support active engagement of families in their child’s education.
- We welcome our community’s expertise and resources in meeting student and family needs.
- We commit to a sustained, long-term dedication of resources to schools.
- We are accountable for mutually agreed-upon student outcomes, ongoing evaluations and consistent measures to ensure program benefits to children.
